Oleg Ponomarev

Violin: Oleg Ponomarev (Rus/IE)

Oleg will give one jazz violin masterclass per day from 11:30am-12:45pm, Tuesday 19-Friday 22 July, covering technique, swing playing and improvisation.
Born in Siberia, Russia, Oleg Ponomarev is a classically trained Gypsy violinist based in Dublin, who performs with Yurodny, Koshka, The Hot Club of Dublin and NoCrows amongst others. After touring with the Russian/Gypsy Band LOYKO for 10 years, recording more than thirty albums, writing off two motorbikes and getting five stars at the Edinburgh Festival, Oleg has finally  settled down in Ireland.
“Guitarist Fintan Gilligan played Reinhardt to Russian violinist Oleg Ponomarev’s Grappelli, and the level of musicianship from the two was outstanding.  The gags were corny, but the music was anything but, and an impressive reminder that the music of Django Rheinhart and Stephane Grapelli, when in the right hands, swings like no other.” - Ian Patterson, All About Jazz  – Bray Jazz Festival
