FRIDAY 26 JULY

Joseph Leighton & The Murray Brothers

The Garavogue Sessions
Welcome to our daily 4:30 session where you can catch some of Ireland and Europe’s finest jazz musicians in an informal setting.

Joseph Leighton: Guitar
Conor Murray: Bass
Micheal Murray: Saxophone
Born in the rugged, rural landscape of County Donegal Ireland, Conor and Micheal Murray began experimenting with various different instruments in Irish traditional music like the Fiddle, Guitar, and Tin Whistle before settling on Saxophone and Double Bass respectively at age twelve. Both brothers quickly developed a strong love for jazz music after this and in 2013, attended the Sligo Jazz Project when they began their astonishing upward curve, fast forward ten years and both are busy members of the international jazz scene, Conor in the UK and USA and Micheal in continental Europe. Both brothers have performed on many occasions with their Derry born friend Joseph Leighton, now a prominent figure on the London jazz scene. Joseph is another fine young musician mentored at Sligo Jazz throughout recent years and who has also, like the Murrays, been on the SJP faculty now for several years.
