Sligo Jazz Project (SJP) International Summer School and Festival
Code of Conduct and Safety of Minors
Important: Minors (Under 18s) must be signed in and out with our Child Safeguarding team at the summer school venue, ATU Sligo, each day at designated times by a parent or guardian. Sligo Jazz Project's Child Safeguarding team is not responsible for minors outside of the ATU.
By participating in classes at the Sligo Jazz Project it is assumed that the parents/students have read and agreed with the following policy.
Participants will:
- Show respect for their tutor(s), Sligo Jazz Project staff and summer school facilities.
- Be kind, sensitive and respectful towards other students.
- Not use mobile phones during lessons and ensemble rehearsals.
- Be aware that tutors will not work overtime, either coming in before their normal teaching session or staying later than it, to make up time a student has missed.
- Parents/guardians are to inform the SJP Child Safeguarding Team as soon as possible if their children are going to miss a class.
Parents/Students of minors attending our summer school will:
- Understand that the tutors at the Sligo Jazz Project are only responsible for students during their classes.
- Ensure that students attend their classes on time.
- Inform a member of the SJP Child Safeguarding Team if their child will not be attending any part of the event in the ATU.
- Ensure that students are collected from the summer school venue promptly at 4 pm each Day (Tuesday-Friday) and 12:30pm (Saturday).
- Ensure that all participants' belongings, instruments and equipment are removed from the rooms at the ATU by lunchtime Saturday.
Ensemble Policy:
- Ensemble members are expected to attend all rehearsals on time.
- Parents are to inform the SJP Child Safeguarding Team in advance if their child cannot attend an ensemble rehearsal.
- The ensemble plan is set by Dr Michael Nielsen and takes many factors from ability into account, eg. age, previous experience, level. Please direct any ensemble issues to Dr Michael Nielsen.
Tutors will:
- Be up to date with all governance relating to SJP governance policies.
- Provide a broad and balanced musical education and always use best practice to help the student make the most of their musical education whatever their ability.
- Treat every student equally.
- Encourage and support students to reach their musical potential.
- Provide a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment.
- Aim to give every student a positive and enjoyable experience at the Sligo Jazz.
- Refer any ensemble issues to Dr Michael Nielsen.
- Listen and act upon any concerns from parents, participants or administrators.
- Adhere to the Sligo Jazz Child Protection Policy.
